Hi All,

Here is a question that perhaps some of our classic owners of vintage heathkits
can answer.

When was the consumer FM band first established and what were the frequency band
edges?

When were receivers built to receive it?

Naturally someone had to be transmitting on the FM band from 88-108 MHZ, if that
was the original bandwidth, for listeners to hear a station. When did FM
broadcasting to the public first begin?

Most of us are at least familiar with the unfortunate battle between the
conception of FM by Armstrong and the hurrendous opposition to it by David
Sarnoff who had invested very heavily into the new spectrum of television.
Sarnoff could not take the risk that Armstrong would be successful with FM and
divert the spending of money by consumers from TV to FM radio. What year did the
widow of Armstrong finally win the last Court litigation, or legal case, that
slammed the door in the face of RCA's founder, David Sarnoff?

Thank you.
