[Heathkit] sb-200 capacitors (again)

Glen, you just dont get it. The inferior cap you suggest should not be used
in the SB200 or any QRO amp for that matter.
I'll repeat myself one more time : Those caps are far inferior to the
originals from Heath. Understood? Using your car analogy they equate to a
Yugo. BTW, KIA has won JD Powers quality awards with their 2005 models.
Now, in light duty use such as a receiver, xcvr, etc they will be OK.
Why you continue to make such a big deal about less than $20 in total
additional cost is beyond me.
End of subject as far as Im concerned.
And to follow up on anothers comment. Yes, we hams do not run our equipment
24/7 and that may be a BAD thing. Power cycling is often more detrimental to
boat anchors than running continuously. OTOH, ham equipment is often
designed with components running at or sometimes even over their ideal
specs. This will wear out tubes for instance. It really becomes a judgement
call and being very familiar with your gear. Drake C Line is one example of
operating on the edge! So is my Clegg Zeus.
With the SB200 the PS is active as soon as it is turned on. Standby current
is flowing thru the caps and heat is being generated internally. Cooling in
the PS compartment is marginal at best.
With the several hundred SB200's I have converted to 6M over the past 40
years I often replace the top cover with perforated aluminum and only cover
the RF area.
For the cost, performance and reliability the SB200 has got to be one of the
all time greats. The SB220 is a close second.
