The swinging link coils were usefull when feeding a high SWR antenna in
the days before nice in-line SWR meters.  We just messed around with
the antenna tuner and swinging link until the final plate current was
what we wanted it to be and there was still some semblence dip at
resonance.  In a modern system with low SWR on the feedline, a fixed
link might be satisfactory.

Keep an eye open at the flea markets,  I have seen them.  I am not sure
if I have any, either in the boxes or beat all to hell from much use.
