Murray:

You need to connect an oscilloscope or VTVM with RF probe across the 
dummy load. This will give you enough sensitivity to null the carrier 
with the mic gain fully CCW. The manual should say that at the beginning 
of the transmitter alignment instructions.  Another way to do it is to 
use a separate receiver with its antenna wire draped near the dummy 
load. Just null the carrier by watching the S meter on the receiver.
