I had opportunity, this weekend to fire up my HT-32(B) for a while
and I have to say in regards to Glens comment about AM as an
after thought, and the power level available for the Marauder.

My HT-32(*) exciters run about 200 watts PEP on SSB, 70 watts
reliably, as in without burning the unit up, and 30 watts input on AM.
I also run with this unit the HT-33 which only requires 5 - 7 watts of
drive on AM to realize 350 - 400 watts output on AM mode. My
manual suggests a 6DB attenuator between the HT-32 and the HT-33
amplifier. I use an adjustable attenuator inline when I run the two, as
I need to know the drive down in all modes, so as not to over drive
the amplifier.

My Marauder, directly drives the Warrior amplifier (4X811A), and requires
no attenuator for full output in AM mode of right around 300 watts.
YMMV

I don't think it was an after thought to have AM on either rig, they just
wanted to give the AM/CW/SSB modes equal time back then.
