Well, Bill, I can't say I'm an expert, but here's what I've learned.
The DX-100 B differed from the '100 in several ways.
The '100 B offers only one crystal position available from a switch inside
the cabinet.
There are two holes punched in the chassis for use with the SB-10 SSB
adapter. The holes are for mounting SO259s.
Instead of a combination of stepped capacitance and a variable cap for
loading in the '100, the '100 B used a large gear-driven cap which was not
as prone to arc over. There was a mod available for the '100.
And the knobs were a little different.
Of course the more obvious differences in the cabinet, you've already
mentioned.

PS: If you can find it, get Chuck Penson's "Heathkit, A Guide to the
Amateur Radio Products". A great reference. It has some un-indexed CB
stuff too.
It was published by CQ a while back. Dunno if it's still in print.
