I placed some pictures and diagrams of the dial cord method for HW10x's and SB-10x's 
on the Nostalgic Kit Center website. Go to http://www.qsl.net/kb7rgg/ and click the Heath 
button. Then scroll down to Heathkit Modifications and find what you are interested in. I 
think one source of springs might be Ace Hardware. I have an SB-100 with string and an 
SB-102 with rubber O-rings. The O-rings are sloppy compared to the cord.
