[Heathkit] Mohican "Oddball" speaker found in the strangest place. . .

Hi all,

About a week or so ago I had mentioned the bad speaker in this Heathkit
Mohican receiver I'm restoring. The Voice coil rubbed and it was open.
The original was a 4x6 inch oval with a 35 Ohm Voice coil that I figured
I'd "never" find, short of a junker set.

HOWEVER! Today I went down to the shop where I do part time audio work
hoping to find an old 4x6 in either a 4 or 8 Ohm version and use a
transformer with it.

Surprise! Sitting on the shelf in the supply room, in plain view were a
pair of 4x6 Ovals. When I looked at them, they were 32 Ohms, close
enough. Looking closely I could see the scratches around the mounting
holes where they had bee previously mounted. The TV tech has a habit of
pulling speakers etc out of old sets prior to junking them as they are
often useful in repairing another set that the parts are no longer
available for.

Even better, these had exactly the same mounting hole configuration and
square magnet cover that the Heathkit speaker had, only differences are
the gold color, slightly larger magnet and the "Made in Korea" writing
on the back.

On another note, the man who gave me the Mohican took the cabinet down
to the body shop where he works part time and got it "color matched and
painted". When I get finished with it, it'll look nearly new (front
panel is quite nice).
