[Heathkit] Re Twoer Traffic?

There seems to be quite a few six meter AM groups scattered around the country
and the numbers are growing. A lot of sixties rigs, from two to ten watts or so.
Many I am told just use a simple dipole for their rag chewing fun.
But what about the two meter AM? Is anyone still playing with it? I have a
beautiful Heathkit Twoer that is not going to transmit very far with five watts
input and two watts output, but what the heck! The firs time I was on the iar
with my high school friend Mark Decker, K8UZJ (SK), it was on his Heathkit Twoer
in 1962.
I am aware of the quirks it had, well at least some of them! Such as interfering
with some two meter repeaters when the Twoer was only receiving. Besides have a
signal that was, shall we say, a little unclean? (chuckle) But I figure I can't
do any serious damage with two watts and a vertical.
I think the call frequency is 144.400, but I have also heard that 144.450 is
being used. Any comments?
I am trying to remember what Mark used a dummy load. Seems like it was a little
pilot lamp, maybe a number 47? Or am I remembering wrong here?
Who will I be able to QSO with? Get a second one and put it at the opposite end
of my QTH and go from one to the other talking to and with myself?
