There are some "modifications" that can be done to the
VF-1 that do not require any wiring changes that will
really stabilize the VFO.
First of all, replace the 6AU6 with a 6AH6. This was
done in the Apache and really helps to stabilize the
VFO.
Next replace the 0A2 150 volt regulator with an 0B2
108 volt regulator. This tube regulates the screen
voltage on the oscillator tube.
Finally, instead of running 225 volts as the B+ supply
use 150 volts regulated.
Frankly, you really don't want to run the VF-1 from
the internal power supply like on the DX-35, DX-40,
DX-60, etc. Actually, you don't want to run any
external VFO from the internal power supply of any of
the old "boat anchor" rigs. The voltage is just too
unstable between key up and key down. You can build a
small power supply and use the 0A2 removed from the
VF-1 to regulate the B+. I have been doing this for
decades on the VF-1 units that I have.
None of the modifications to the VF-1 requires any
wiring changes at all. However, they really do help
stabilize the unit.

Looking for older vfo that works and that not been
butchered up too bad. Something like a HG-10, HA-5,
Eico 722. If ya have something let me know and I'll
pass it on. I'm actually acting as the middle man on
this one. Oh, no VF-1's. Thanks.
