Why?

The equipment manufacturers never furnished matched
pairs when the equipment was new.  Even if the pair is
"perfectly" matched at the start, they seldom "age"
the same and within a few hours of operation they are
no longer "matched".

All that matching really does is to increase the
original price of the tubes.

If you haven't read the article that was in Electric
Radio a while back on the 6146 family of tubes it can
be found on either website that is listed at the end
of this message.
