[Heathkit] HW-16 problem

One thing that seems to "cure" about 90% of "strange"
problems in boatanchor equipment is to tighten all of
the machine screws and nuts that go through the
chassis. All of the grounds in the equipment are made
through these connectors and over the years they work
loose, become corroded, etc. Getting them all back
tight again gets the grounding like it was originally
intended and many "ills" are corrected.

These work loose even if the unit sits in the same
place for years.

The machine screws in my Collins 75S-3A had to be
retightened a couple of months back. The receiver has
been in basically the same place for about 30 years
(seldom moved). However, the performance got to be
erratic thus telling me to take it to the service
bench. A few minutes spent tightening all of the
machine screws and nuts got the receiver back working
without any problems.
