Actually, the HP-23 did have an option for either 250
volts or 300 volts. However, you had to change a
jumper inside of the unit.
Starting with the HP-23A Heath added a switch so that
the power supply could be used on various pieces of
equipment without having to make a "hard wire" change.
My SB-101 is quite happy with the 300 volt as have
been a couple of SB-102 units that I have worked on.
But, my SB-110A definitely does NOT like the 300 volt
position. If I remember correctly (am not looking at
the manual right now) the manual states that the 250
volt position is to be used on the SB-110A.
There are other changes in the various HP-23 series
supplies. The HP-23 and HP-23A have both 6.3 VAC and
12.6 VAC available for the heaters ("filaments") but
the HP-23B and HP-23C have only 12.6 VAC. The HP-23
can only be operated from 120 volt sources but all of
the later versions have dual primary windings and can
be used on both 120 VAC and 240 VAC by a simple wiring
change. Some of the HP-23 use a fuse in the 120 VAC
line and the later versions use a circuit breaker.
The HP-23 only has a fixed bias available while the
later versions have both fixed bias and a
potentiometer in line for a variable bias.
When used with the Heath SB-100, SB-101, SB-102,
HW-100, and HW-101 series transceivers any of the
HP-23
power supplies should work fine. With the monobanders
I believe that you need to use the 250 volt setting.
When using the HP-23 series with Collins equipment (in
place of the 516F-2) you need the versions with the
variable bias since most of the Collins S-Line does
not have a built in bias control.

I have a HP 23 with a toggle switch for LV-off-HV. On
the SB 101 which setting do I use? And on a SB-102
which setting do I use? Also, can someone please tell
me why the newer HP 23 power supply has an option for
voltage levels. And the old version HP 23 did not.
