[Heathkit] Heath AT-1 Question

During the late 1950's two friends of mine (W4UUH, now SK, and his son
John, K4AFP, now W3CM) ran the AT-1 (with homebrew plate modulator and
Heath VF-1) and certainly did not get more than that to the antenna!!
They used a 4 element monobander with a folded dipole driven element and
fed it with 300 ohm twin lead on 28 MHz. Their receiver was a National
NC-57 with an RME VHF-152A converter.

During that awesome sunspot cycle 10 meters was solid QRM from one end
of the dial to the other. I've not heard anything like it since!!! There
were a lot of hams then who ran the AT-1 and the VF-1. There were also
many who used a single 6L6 as a stand alone xtal oscillator. The 1960
Radio Amateur Handbook shows the 6L6 as a Class A amplifier with rated
outputs from 6.5 to 10.8 watts with 250 to 350 volts on the plate. I
believe Heath had it in a class C configuration?
