[Heathkit] HW-9 spur question

Hello,

I am new to the list so I may be dredging up an old topic here.  I recently got an HW-9 working and am somewhat bothered by the spurs the receiver has.  The spur at 14.041 MHz is especially annoying.  I have changed the VFO filter as per the QEX article of October 1990 by ND3P and that has knocked it down from a +10 over 9 to not moving the s meter, but I can still hear it and some others.

Does anyone have additional mods to knock the receiver birdies down?
