Mike:
The Harmonic Drive was used only with the HW-100. It provided a 28:1
reduction ratio. The drive consists of 2 parts, a large knob and a small
black splined piece. The small piece was pressed onto the end of the VFO
capacitor shaft and the knob snapped on over it. I don't believe it was
used on any rig but the HW-100. There really is no way to use the knob
on a conventional 1/4 inch shaft and of course, you need both parts to
make the drive work. The two parts should be packaged together. Also, a
light silicon grease (more like a heavy oil) was used to lubricate the
drive.
When Heath came out with the HW-101, the Harmonic Drive was replaced by
2 conventional 6:1 planetary drives in series.
If you don't need the drives and they are complete, perhaps some of us
HW-100 owners could use them as spares.

The inner part seems to turn freely so I can't quite figure how these work, nor do I remember what radio they're from. Can someone kindly clear up an old ham's befuddlement?
