Murray,
This is normal. The far left digit is the tens of megahertz digit. It
only lights up on bands 14 MHz and above. It does flash momentarily when
the display is powered up.
Helpful hint: If you have trouble with the SB-650, try removing the
chips and reseating them in their sockets. Over time, the IC pins get a
little oxidized. A little contact cleaner or De-Oxit will help, too.

ALL OTHER DIGITS STAY ON DISPLAYING "0". THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS. AFTER READING THE MANUAL, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN. I HAVE NOT YET CONNECTED IT TO THE TRANSCEIVER AS IT REQUIRES WIRING RCA JACKS AND I HAVE NOT GOTTEN AROUND TO DO IT. CAN ANYONE ON THE LIST CONFIRM HOW THIS UNIT SHOULD BEHAVE WHEN IT IS TURNED ON AND NOT CONNECTED TO A RADIO.
