What happens if you set the front panel Clipper(gain) control a few
degrees lower? The Clipper control should normally be turned up only a
few degrees from its zero position. The other assumption here that I'm
making is that you have already determined that all the tubes in the
modulator have been checked and are good, the bias to the modulator tubes
is correct, and no one has diddled with the modulator wiring. The
modulator stages have some fairly decent gain so you shouldn't have to
turn the audio gain control to far up from zero. Pull the 6AL5 to
eliminate any clipping action.
