I have had my HR-10 since I built it new in 1963.. Anyway years ago, I
figured out that I would never get it to hold alignment with the stock steel
bottom cover.

Because of stray capacitance introduced by the cover, alignment will change
when it is re-installed. I have seen a lot of HR-10s with the bottom covers
drilled for access to the tuning slugs (so you don't have to remove the
cover). I tried this, but found further that the "oil canning" of the cover would
also affect alignment. So, I had a piece of 1/8" aluminum sheared to fit (I
think I started with 12" aluminum rack panel?). I drilled it for slug
access and have not had a problem since.

So Tom, unless you are restoring the radio for a collection (ie. you don'
plan to use it), I would not use a stock bottom cover. Have a better one made.
