[Heathkit] Heathkit HW-2036 bandwidth mod

I have an old Heathkit HW-2036 2 meter rig that I put together a long time
ago. Since I have not been on the air for several years, the rig has just
been sitting. I am getting back into working 2 meters and dusted off my
HW-2036. One issue it had earlier was its limited bandwidth. It couldn't
operate the full 2 meter band (4 Mhz) without going out of sync. If I
remember correctly, there was a mod available to increase the HW-2036
bandwidth.
The mod was never incorporated into my rig. Do you know any details
regarding this bandwidth mod? Any info you could provide would be greatly
appreciated. (I have the original owners manual and there isn't anything
listed about this).

Also, do you know any way I could adjust the tones for repeater access
within the HW-2036 without a frequency counter? Many of the repeaters
nearby require tone access. However, I do not have a frequency counter to
adjust the HW-2036.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
