You 'may' be correct. I would guess the original marketing manager and the
senior design engineer would know, for sure. They are though 'similarly'
designed. A lot of 'common' items through out the two units (certainly not
all, but a lot).
However, many of the manufacturers at the time (Hammarlund, Heath, Drake,
Collins, Hallicrafters, and others - no slights intended for missing any
important vintage maker) marketed their transmitters and/or receivers to be
used alone. Certainly Heath did....though I'm sure they would like one to buy
both their transmitter and 'matching' receiver. Their DX-100, TX-1 and
HX-10....as well as the RX-1 could stand alone with some other receiver or
transmitter....and many did. I'm almost positive, Heath sold not near the
amount of RX-1's as they did DX-100 series, TX-1's and HX-10's.
>From talking to the many former Heath employees who still live and work around
here, I'm sure the TX-1 and HX-10 were hopefully to be paired with the Heahkit
matching receiver, the RX-1. Though most were not.
Great thread compared to some that have been on here.
