Glen,

First of all, Mail Boxes, Etc., is a thing of the past -- they are "The UPS
Store" now. And, it is critical for all of us shipping older equipment to know
the packer, personally! The local store I use (now a UPS Store franchise) has
shipped dozens of boatanchors for me up to and including a Central Electronics
100V with absolutely no problem. In fact, much of what he has shipped for me
have been the same size but usually lighter (HQ-170A, HQ-180, etc.) But,
critical issue here is that I took the time to be sure the proprietor knew what he
was doing. Neither UPS nor FedEx had a special license on taking care of
radios -- they both bash the tar out of the boxes. The critical issue is how much
care is taken protecting them.

Now, at the same time, I tend to agree with a QF-1 that it could be carefully
packed with maybe bubble wrap out about 2" from all sides and make a trip
just fine -- at a lot less than $30.
