Hi Mike,
You are right as far as the bypass switch is concerned. To label it "bypass"
is a bit misleading. The tuner however, is an exceptional unit. I use mine
from 160m thur 6m. I have a lookup table for each band. All you need to do is
pick a band, set three knobs, and get on the air. Not an inconvenience at all. I
have a 100' long center fed dipole, fed with 450 ohm ladder line. With this
setup, I need the tuner regardless of the band I'm on. During a 160m cw contest,
I casually worked 22 states using this tuner, and antenna that is way too
short for the band. I can get a 1:1 match on any frequency from 1.8 thru 30mc. I
couldn't be happier with my SA-2060. Before you sell it, use it for a while.
I'll bet you end up keeping it.
