Good Heavens! That is terrible, Duane! I often wondered how you lost your
sight. In any case, it's tragic. I'm sorry, now that I know. Generally,
when you hear of someone accidentally getting shot by a hunter it's with a
rifle, due to its longer range. I'm assuming that this person was using a
shotgun with its relatively short range. They should have seen you.

I actually have been a waterfowl hunter since my teens, rather than a deer
hunter. In that 30 years or so I've witnessed a fair number of hair-raising
acts of carelessness, including a game warden in full camoflauge dress
trying to sneak up on a group of goose hunters. Unfortunately for him a
crippled goose land very near to him and he was very nearly slain by a
hunter who was trying to kill the cripple. Another hunter I saw caught a
shotgun blast full in the face after it ricocheted of the steel wall of his
pit. His buddy had forgot to put the gun on "safe".

The biggest danger in hunting, IMHO, is when alcohol is added into the mix.
Not preaching, here. I used to drink before quitting in 1976, but
unfortunately, booze almost is traditional to some hunters (and more than
few hunterettes). They would sooner go huinting without shells than without
Mr. Daniels. God help 'em, 'cause I'll be to far away.

73,
Tom
