[Heathkit] AT-1 on AM???

Did that back in the 50s with a DX20, made up a cathode modulator from a
circuit I found, made 2 - 3 contacts with it that were not at all
satisfactory. I think I hollered CQ for half an hour on 80 meter phone (Twas
in the days when AMers really did call SSB users "Donald Ducks") AM became a
pleasure when I traded the DX20 in for a Viking Ranger.

There is a modulator socket  on the back of the AT1 - and I think it was
meant for Plate modulation. I also remember some folks converting the little
hifi amps into modulators (something with a pair of 6V6s). That would be
much better than cathode modulation.
