[Heathkit] Heathkit LG-1 saga

Even the IG-42 (next generation) does not have the additional control above
the attenuator
control. The last catalog I have to see an LG-1 shows the same front panel
layout as the later
model IG-42. I cannot check back into the earlier year LG-1s as I have no
catalogs back then.
So it would appear that if it is factory it would be on earlier and not
later models. 73 de K0AZ

Subject: [Heathkit] Heathkit LG-1 saga
Hi folks,
This is a long story but I will try to make it short. I need your help. I
have
run out of sources for answers as the story builds.
I acquired (purchased) recently, a mint Heathkit LG-1 Laboratory Generator
(RF
SIG GEN), copper chassis, gray knobs and front panel with white lettering
that
has become impossible to identify. Either it was modified during
construction
or is possibly a prototype, with no serial number label.
Three gentlemen have sent me a scan of the page containing the LG-1
from the 1954, 1955 and 1957 catalogs and ALL are different in appearance
and
probably in circuitry (in some minor way). That makes four different
versions
of the generator in a period of maybe 5 or 6 years. . Have you ever seen
anything like this in a Heath product? Quite an evolution for one product.
The manual copy I purchased is close to what I have except there is a
control
above the fine attenuator on mine that is a fine frequency adjustment. This
is not the trimmer for the oscillator which is where it belongs with an
access
hole in the rear. It is a tiny air variable capacitor (18-72 mmf) and
connects
to the main tuning condenser stator through two mica caps of 10 and 22 mmf.
This addition appears to be entirely original.
I guess what I need is for those with 50's and 60's catalogs to look on the
page for the LG-1 and see if you can find one with this extra control.
Please
let me know what you find.
Thanks and 73, Dick KF4NS
