[Heathkit] HW-9 VFO Alignment

I'm having problems aligning the VFO of a HW-9.
Its way outta whack. Maybe off by 20-30khz or
more on 80m for starters.

With the tuning dial at 250, i'm able to
adjust L118 to get 5.7493 mhz - or very close.

But then when i tune the dial back down to
zero, instead of reading 5.9993 on the counter,
i'm reading a value much lower. When i adjust
C1 i can only get it up to about 5.7 mhz -
and that is with the trimmer turned fully
clockwise... so there's no where else to go.
Of course then L188 is off again and i adjust
that, but then i always end up with C1 unable
to get anywhere close to 5.9993 at dial-zero.

Can anyone offer some help with my alignment?
I'm a novice when it comes to this procedure!

Thanks!

Steve, N9OH
