Greetings All, It has been a rather tough weekend being up to my elbows in
SB Green.
I recently received another 301/401 pair and have been fighting both ever
since. Most
of my time has been spent on the 401 but I put the 301 on the bench a couple
times just
to break up the fight with the 401.
The 401 is getting close but still needs some more fine tuning. The 301 is
now looking very
good and I am about ready to call it air worthy.
This post involves the SB-301 "repair". I first noticed on receipt the clean
insides of both
units. Later I discovered someone had done a somewhat superficial cleaning
on top to make
them look good I guess. The main problem with the receiver was intermittent
no S meter and
lost AGC action. I went back and forth over the IF unit and found nothing
wrong in my first
run at the unit. On close inspection I noticed what must have been residue
from the "cleaning"
on the edges of the IF board. Bottom line is I loosened all the screws and
nuts on the board and
swabbed some Deoxit between the board edges and frame. Then the screws on
the board were
reseated. AGC action is now fine and S meter is stable.
Just a gotcha I thought I would pass along. 73 de K0AZ Mike
