[Heathkit] Heathkit SB-300 Meter

SB 300 has a switch on the chassis that allows you to change what
input you are listening to. This was to allow the use of
transverter/converters.

If the switch is turned wrong, or needs cleaning you can have this
kind of effect because the inputs are not really isolated.

Once used an SB300 on field day for four hours on 20 and 15 meters,
making close to 300 contacts, with the switch in the wrong position.
Went looking for what was wrong when the operators said the S meter
never deflected.

Guy.

Subject: [Heathkit] Heathkit SB-300 Meter

Hello every one, I am new to the reflector, as I am begening my
collection of heathkit rigs.. I had a SB-102 as a young ham ( 11 ) and
' upgraded a while back.. now I want to get back into it ( heaths ) ,
and i picked up a nice SB-300. Well , I unpacked it.. hooked it up..
and it hears really well.. stable as a rock.. the only thing recieve
wise that i dont like.. is that it warbles a bit when TUNING a cw
station.. but when i stop twisting the VFO, it is ROCK STABLE.

Anyways.. the meter seems to not work on incoming signals.. if I turn
down the RF gain.. the meter DOES reflect to full scale.. and then
back down when I re apply the RF gain to the rcvr.. any ideas? A
working meter is a MUST hihi.. also, its missing the AM Crystal
filter.. im going to assume this is why it does not recieve in the AM
mode.

I am looking for a copy of the manual online.. altho.. the prices seem
pretty outlandish.. Im actually thinking of replacing every part in
this to try and restore it to new condx.. ' origional ' dosent concern
me.. i want it to function perfectly.

Oh, and issue #2, the " frequency alignment line " ( i dont know what
to call it, does not spinn when the small dial is turned.. I looked
inside and the small wheel.. and the ' line adjust plastic 1/2 sphere
" dont mate up.. is there souposed to be a tiny wire in there? Ideas?

Ide also like ideas on cleaning the inside.. its not rusted at all..
just dirty.. i tryed some windex on the coil cover.. and almost took
off all the lettering ( ugg ).

Thank alot guys! Hopefully Ill be in touch with some of you really
soon!
