[Heathkit] Fwd: Seeking Duane Fischer as a dummy load

Hi,
That one about the hair was just as funny as anything Duane has sent out
earlier concerning that cyber-punk stuff he rants on about occassionally.
Who care's if the fellow has a ham ticket? What does that mean anymore,
anyway? I have an extra-class license. Gee-wiz! I couldn't pass the
advance test in 1970 without studying but had no trouble passing the Extra
in 1998 with less effort. Had I waited just a little longer, I wouldn't
even have had to suffer throught another code test!
The tests just aren't technically challenging anymore so one can't refer to
them to judge who were are; anybody can join the club these days. The
license itself just no longer defines who we are as a group.
However, I wanted to offer some insights into my experience at purchasing
equipment over the web (like that amp for example) instead of ranting on
about who we are.
I've done a little shopping on eBay and elsewhere and have found through
experience that no questions are necessary to determine the quality of
equipment offered for sale before buying. I'm sure the same rules can be
applied here as well.
Bob's Rules on Internet Purchasing:
1. If they don't say it works, you can bet it doesn't!
2. If they say they don't know if it works, you can be assured that it
doesn't. Not even a little bit!
3. If they say it worked last time they used it but they don't know if it
works now, well, you can bet it doesn't work. Dah!
4. If they don't specifically state that a picture of the item for sale is
the item itself, then you can justly suspicion that its not a picture of the
item for sale but instead a picture of a similar item in much better
condition. Sucker!
5. Repair parts for those old rigs are made out of un-obtanium (that's very
rare indeed). You can bet whatever you buy from some dead-beat on the web
will need atleast two or three of those parts. Gee, Time marches on!
6. I forgot this one before I could write it down. I'm getting older!
What's your excuse?
7. Buy only from the original owner. They may be less likely to do
something like break off the lever of that HW-101 CW/SSB lever switch after
they sell the CW filter on the side without telling you. They might still
sell the filter but atleast they won't break that unobtanium part.
8. Don't buy HW-101s on eBay. I haven't found one that was worth a damn.
9. Had to delete this one. You're just not ready for it.
10. And finally, my last tip. Only you can make a difference. Long live
Ham Radio!
