[Heathkit] dx 60 mic connector

If all else fails, you can make an equivalent of the
old Amphenol microphone connector out of a PL-259 UHF
coax male connector.

Cut off the center pin until it is about 3/16 of an
inch long. Solder the center conductor from the
microphone to this pin and then the shield of the wire
to the outer portion of the PL-259. You can put an
RG58/U or RG59/U adapter on the plug to make things
neater. The outer shield of the PL-259 will screw
onto the connecter just fine. You do have to shorten
the center conductor so that the plug will screw on
and make a good connection.

This "trick" has been around for decades. I think
that I read it back around 1960 in the "Hints & Kinks"
section of QST.

Since the microphone connector is on the back of my
Hammarlund HX-50A (my 160 meter SSB rig), I needed a
connector a few years ago and haven't bothered to
change it!
