Dear Heath lovers,

I though I had done restoration of this TX1. At one time
I could get 120W/CW output at 3.88MHz. Several days
later, I could never reproduce the result anymore, no
matter how I tuned the unit.

Here is a list of observations:

1. HV normal 880V without load.
2. VFO working and 5673 can draw 25mA
at drive max.
3. SSB static current 55mA can be obtained.
4. CW/AM had no static current.
5. No (or very small) grid current, even the drive
was set at Max.
6. 6146 input grid bias -50V (CW/AM).
7. Output: ~3W (CW/AM and swapping tubes yielded the same
result).
8. Drive tune showed little dip only.

Since I blew my meter, I used a 50Ohm resistor in
place of the meter and measured the voltage crossed
the resistor. The drawback of this temporary setup was
that the digital meter was interfered by the RF. Even at
3W output the digital meter showed unreliable readings.

I then used Watt meter to tune the unit. I suspect I did
not
get the 6146 control grid voltage correct which was
controlled
by a 6AQ5 and its control circuit.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Jonathan
