Hi, Glen--
Congratulations on your station. I built an Apache and Mohawk when I was 15
and 16 years old (1960 or '61). Needing some sort of antenna switching, I
priced the Dow-Key coaxial relay at $12.95 and the Dow-Key T-R switch at
$10.95, so bought the T-R switch.
I was careful to keep the receive/standby switch on the Mohawk in the
standby position so it would mute when the transmitter was turned to
transmit.
One day, I had that switch in the receive position and found that with the
AVC turned off, my own signal was 579 in the Mohawk -- no overload at all.
From then on I had about the best QSK possible -- it was wonderful. Then
along came the Army, then Heath transceivers and QSK was a thing of the past
until I found a Ten-Tec rig. The Ten-Tec has great QSK, but my
Apache/Mohawk setup was better!

| Not to brag (at least too much!!!), with the mailman
| bringing an XC-2 2 meter converter around noon, and
| UPS showing up in the evening with an AK-5 speaker, I
| have finally basically completed an original Heath
| Twins + VHF station.
|
| This consists of the Apache, Mohwak, AK-5, SB-10, and
| Warrior for 80 - 10 meters, and a Seneca plus the XC-6
| and XC-2 converters for VHF (used with the Mohawk).
| Of course a Marauder and an HX-30 would complete a 2nd
| generation "twins" station, but I haven't acquired
| either one of them.
|
| Also acquired an AM-2 SWR bridge that was sold as the
| companion to the "twins" (although it is of the older
| design) and a set of B-1 balun coils.
|
| This equipment is not for sale or trade, just a
| recreation of an AM / CW / SSB station of over 40
| years ago.
