All:
First off, this is my first time on the Heathkit list. I'm glad to be here as this is where I started out my "ham career", building at first, an HW-8, then later an HW-101.
My question surrounds the old PS3 power supply. It uses a pair of 1619's, basically 2.5 volt filament 6L6's (if I'm not mistaken). I would like to remove these tubes (when they are kaput) and slip in a set of 6L6's in their place. My problem (at least on paper) is the changing out of the filaments. I have two options:
1) Take off the 2.5vac winding from the sockets and use the current 6.3 VAC winding but their may be a problem: will that winding handle the extra 1.8 amp coming from the new 6L6's?
2) If the 6.3 VAC winding can't handle it, then maybe putting in a voltage doubler on the 2.5 vac winding will do the trick.
Any comments or suggestions will be indeed helpful to me in this quest. Let me know and thanks.
Cal, N6KYR.
