It's been over two years but finally we're back in business on the fourth Friday of every month at the Holyoke Hospital Auditorium. If you're looking to obtain a new licens\e or upgrade a present license now is your chance to do it conveniently this Friday evening. Our first ARRL VE session since the pandemic. We will be back on our regular schedule of the 4th Friday of every month. Have you been waiting to upgrade? All studied up for a new license but nowhere to go? The wait is over! Where: Holyoke Medical Center Auditorium 575 Beech Street Holyoke, MA 01040 Time: 6PM to 8PM Note: There have been some changes in FCC rules regarding amateur radio licensing, including a $35 fee for new licenses. ARRL is offering to offset this fee for youth licensing (younger than 18), further information in this article: https://www.arrl.org/youth-licensing-grant-program The new fee is paid directly to the FCC, not at the VE session. The ARRL exam fee remains at $15. Hope to see your smiling face on January 27th when we issue your CSCE! NOTE: New licensees will need an FCC "FRN" in order to take an exam. If you're unsure how to get one (they're free) here's a slightly long video on how to obtain one. https://youtu.be/SaHcLG9cLS0 Just a reminder, our Amateur Radio Exam (VE) session is this Friday, January 27th. Please remember, if you're applying for a new license you WILL NEED an FRN number issued from the FCC. FRN's are free (and easily attainable) from the FCC. Here's a detailed video on how to receive YOUR FRN. It's a little long but accurate and of course free. https://youtu.be/SaHcLG9cLS0 Once again, you MUST HAVE an FCC FRN number to take an Amateur Radio Exam. If you've never had a ham license you will need to apply for that number. If you're presently licensed either find (or look up) your FRN number and bring it with you to the exam session. If you pass your exam you will have to pay the FCC $35 filing fee DIRECTLY to the FCC within 10 days of notification. We (the volunteer examiners) do not collect or receive any money from the FCC. Remember, ARRL is offering discounts for new applicants less than 18 years of age, see the details in the comments. Message-ID: Everyone is welcome to join us! This is a joint HCRA and FCARC effort. An opportunity to meet people and share ideas for portable and mobile HF operations. This is a first-time effort, so let's be casual and have fun. Please participate, drop by or catch us on the air. We'll be using the W1NY call sign. When: this Sunday, January 29th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Where: 1500 West St, Amherst, MA 01002 ( https://goo.gl/maps/k5PmsAt5T91uEH8G6) Indoor restrooms are available Food: Atkins Farm (https://www.atkinsfarms.com) is a mile down the street and offers many delicious foods and treats. You are also welcome to bring something to share or for yourself. What to Bring: mobile and portable gear you have handy. Toys such as an IC-705, a mobile HF station, and various antennas will be available along with DC power. Bring your gear to use and show those attending. Share Your Knowledge! We expect most operations will be from the parking lot. We're going to try to be in the upper portion of the left parking lot. Look for antennas and call signs on cars and hams.
