The Radio Amateur Society of Norwich will hold its annual radio and

person donation includes the privilege of bidding and having items

Attention all Fox Hunters,

HCRA Foxbox #1 has escaped it's den and is ready for a Springtime Fox Hunt.

As of 1600hrs, Friday, April 15th, HCRA Foxbox #1 is back in hiding! The 
weather has drastically improved and it's perfect for a Springtime Fox 
Hunt! If you know someone new to fox hunting then why not take them 
along with you on this and any future hunts. Lets get more hams 
interested in this fun aspect of amateur radio! This is also a good 
opportunity for base stations to give signal reports and a direction if 
possible. It's just as important for the hunters to know where it cannot 
be heard too.

That diabolical fox is running the usual one watt into a 18 inch 
antenna. I was able to activate it running 50 watts in my mobile in 
Chicopee near the
intersection of Memorial Drive (Rte.33) and Pendleton Ave.

You can activate the fox by going on the 2 meter simplex frequency of 
147.55 MHz (PL 100.0Hz), key your transmitter, identify yourself with 
your callsign and then press the DTMF "1".

If the Fox can hear you and you can hear it, you will hear its very 
distinctive sound. It will transmit for 30 seconds, ID and then repeat 2 
more times and then go back to sleep. You can make it transmit as often 
as necessary to find it.

Do not reveal its location, just a location (and direction if possible) 
from which you are able to hear it. This then becomes a starting point 
for the other fox hunters to use.

You do not actually have to touch the box to claim finding it. Eyeball 
contact is sufficient and a photo that shows the Fox is a plus. It is 
located less than 500 feet from a safe parking location. Announce it 
here on https://www.groups.io/g/WMAFoxHunters that you've found it with 
any comments you may have other than it's exact location. We want to 
know who has found it and who hasn't.

Please take a photo of the fox box with your cell phone and post the pic 
along with your comment to announce that you have found the fox. Do not 
give away it's location in the picture!

I can tell you it is in a public accessible location with nearby safe 
parking. Getting to the FB requires a short walk on mostly flat ground.

Please do not post the frequency or PL on social media, any websites or 
email lists.

We're looking for 10 volunteers for the annual HCRA trailer inventory &
cleaning.

This year the date is Saturday, May21st at 10am with a rain date of Sunday,
the 22nd at 10am.

This usually completes in less than 2 hours.

Location of the activity is at Dave, AA1YW's house in Southwick, MA.

www.near-fest.org) in NH this Friday. It's the largest ham radio flea
market in the northeast.

*The New England QSO Party is coming in one week*  -

Hope you will have a few hours to operate in this year's *New England QSO
Party on May 7th and 8th*, either from your home station or mobile.

We're trying to make sure Hampden County is active on the air so please let
us know if you plan to be on for even a short time by sending a note to us
at info at neqp.org


*The New England QSO Party is 20 hours long overall, in two sections with a
civilized break for sleep on Saturday night.  It runs from 4 pm Saturday
until 1 am Sunday, then 9 am Sunday until 8 pm Sunday.  Operate on CW, SSB
and/or digital modes on 80-40-20-15-10 meters.  For each QSO you'll give
your callsign, a signal report and your county/state.  Top scorers can earn
a plaque and everyone who sends in a log with at least 25 valid QSOs will
get a certificate.  The goal is to work stations anywhere in the world -
and their goal is to work New England stations, so you'll be very popular!*

The HCRA 10 meter net will be held Monday evening, 5/2, at 7pm on 28.375 usb

Topic: /What interesting or famous people have you met? Doesn't have to 
be ham related. Plus, a trivia question!/

28.375 is within the Technician's license privileges on the band plan so 
if you are a ham with a tech or greater license come join in on the fun!

The purpose of this net is to practice HF operating procedures, get over 
mic shyness, and above all too have fun!

All licensed hams are welcome to join in on the fun, regardless of club 
affiliation or location.

This net only lasts around an hour or so, C'mon... join in and have some 
fun with us!
