Message-ID: As of 3:00pm on Monday, May 10th. FB2 aka Fox Box 2 has finally been deployed! All are invited to hunt for this Fox Box FB2 has a new, better hearing radio, is transmitting on 147.550 Mhz with a PL of 151.4. You can activate FB2 by depressing the DTMF key #1. A short depress will activate it if you are close enough. FB2 is transmitting at 1 watt into a tall ducky antenna. I ask that all base stations and mobiles try to activate FB2 and then announce where you can hear it and how strong the signal or audio is. This will help the mobile hunters to find it. This is a walk up foxhunt. You can park your vehicle and safely walk up to FB2. It is on public property in a safe area. When you find FB2, please take a picture of it and post it here. Please do not say where you found it though. Are you up to it? The second HCRA Fox Box has been deployed. Are you up for a challenge of finding it? The Fox Box is on public property. It does require a little bit of walking to get to. But it's a very easy walk on nice smooth terrain. You can park and lock your car and go for a little walk to find it. Base stations can help. Tune your 2m radio to 147.550 Mhz. Set your PL to 151.4 and turn on your Tone function. Key your microphone, ID with your call and press the "1" key on the keypad for half a second. Then listen. Do you hear some tones and then a CW ID? If yes, this is the fox box. Report your finding here with how much power, your approximate location and what kind of an antenna you triggered it with. If you have a beam, report the direction where the signal is the strongest. Reduce power if you can and try again. These reports will help the mobile hunters. It can also help you if you want to try walking up to the fox box too. Once you find it. Tell others that you did, but DO NOT tell them where you found it. Let them hunt it down. Pictures of the foxbox hiding can be posted to the HCRA Facebook page and the WMAFoxhunters group on groups.io. Let's hear some chatter from the hunters. Thanks Larry for taking the time to set up the Fox and for the tutoring on how to use my homemade antenna and attenuator, built in 2019 at one of HCRA's workshops. I live in Agawam, and had the signal from my house to get an initial bearing. I drove across the south-end bridge and stopped on a side street off the Sumner Ave exit area and got another bearing. I'm sure you'll get the signal anywhere in that general area. When I thought I was close, I parked and walked on the road, and then traipsed through the woods a bit as I followed the signal, but later found that wasn't required if you know how to work that attenuator better as you get closer along the way. Had a good time, and will try to get a few grandkids out there to follow the signal on this one or the next one. References: <00e14fa6-4d2a-79a7-1123-3cb9b1518db4.ref@yahoo.com> Message-ID: <00e14fa6-4d2a-79a7-1123-3cb9b1518db4@yahoo.com> Attention all fox hunters: HCRA Foxbox1 and Foxbox2 have gone into hiding! Both are located somewhere within the City of Chicopee. I would like to issue a special challenge to all hunters (and future hunters) to locate BOTH Foxbox's this Memorial Day weekend! Are YOU up to the task? This is a good opportunity for base stations to get in on the fun. If you can hear the fox please give its signal strength and direction if possible. Please do not reveal its location, just a location where you can hear it from, this then becomes a starting point for the other fox hunters to use. It's just as important for the hunters to know where it CANNOT be heard as well as where it CAN be heard! If you do locate either Foxbox you do not have to touch the box to claim finding it. Eyeball contact is sufficient but please post a photo (not revealing its location) as there may be other hunters still out there. Both are located less than 500 feet from a safe parking location. Announce it and post the photo here on this group and the HCRA Facebook Group that you found it along with any comments other than its location. We want to know who has found them and who hasn't. I can tell you both are in a publicly accessible location with nearby safe parking. Getting to either FB may require a short walk on mostly flat ground. FB1 and FB2 are on the 2-meter simplex frequency 147.550 with one watt into a duck-type antenna. PL tones and additional details can be found at: https://groups.io/g/WMAFoxHunters Happy Hunting!
