The Scantic Spring Splash is a canoe and kayak race down the Scantic River
in Somers, CT. It's always fun, especially where there are rapids.

Knut is looking for hams with 440 HT's. You can put your dual band HT to
good use! Or if you have a setup with a mobile and a long life battery,
this will work too.

8 is still good. Yes, I was pretty exhausted. I still am tired. I'm hoping
this weekend of ham radio gets me the break I need from work. I've been
working nearly every day since before Thanksgiving with very few days off.

I was texting with Rich last night and it looks like he has pneumonia and
may miss this years WFD too. I told him to please stay away and not bring
his germs to us so we don't get sick. I know you just recently recovered
from it and none of us wants those germs in our vicinity. I feel bad for
him, but I don't want to get sick!

Our friends at the Franklin County club (FCARC) in Greenfield, a little
north of us need some Public Service communication help. Please consider
volunteering: Hi Everyone,
Well, it's that time of year again, the Greenfield Winter Carnival Sleigh
Bell Race is coming up on Saturday, February 1, 2020. I know this isn't the
favorite for some folks, so if you are one of them, please don't burn out
on this race. Our summer races are much longer and have a lot more
entrants, so we really need people to show up for them.
That being said, we do need some people who would be willing to help out
with this race. I've spoken with Christy and relayed our concerns, her
response was that she really appreciates us being there. She never knows
how many volunteers she will have and often they are young (high
schoolers). She trusts us and knows we know what we are doing and is
thankful having a link to people she knows will have eyes on her runners.
Anyway, for those who haven't done this one or don't remember, this is a
very short race, only 4 miles. We will meet around 9am - 9:15ish at Hope &
Olive - coffee and donuts are available - and then be at positions by about
9:45am. As far as I know, we will be using the Leyden repeater. The race
starts promptly at 10am and we should be done by 11am (the fastest runners
are done in like 20 minutes).
So, if you'd like to get a little practice with your radio, or want to
socialize over coffee, or just want something to do on a Saturday morning,
please email me. Also, let me know if you have a preference for a certain
position. Email with any questions.

It might be because I was testing putting the ZB on a post to see if it
could be downloaded from there. I used the Jan ZB.

Please spread the word:

The HCRA is holding a weekend Tech Class license session over March 21 &
22. Classes run 8 am thru 6 pm Saturday. 8 am thru 2 or 3 pm Sunday with
testing immediately after.

Cost is $35 and includes the book and lunch on Sunday. Bottled water will
be available on both days.

Location is the room where the HCRA holds it's monthly meetings, the
Auxiliary room at Holyoke Hospital. (http://www.hcra.org/meeting-location/).

You must register and prepay for the class so you can get your book before
the class begins.

A sign up form will be available at http://www.hcra.org/licensing-classes/
