The Summer Stew Perry Topband Challenge is this weekend. It's an entirely different type of event where the distance of the QSO matters. See N6TR's email below. GL, Mike N1TA ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Tree Date: Tue, Jun 12, 2018 at 2:09 PM Subject: Topband: Summer Stew Perry Topband Challenge - this weekend To: 160 , A final reminder that the summer Stew Perry contest is happening this weekend. After being silent in March, I am hoping to get K7RAT back on the air in time to hand out some QSOs. Will likely be a tree supported wire of some kind at the new QTH. Rules and previous results are here: http://www.kkn.net/stew Remember the brand new Stew Perry Quatre Seasons Award!! This special award - which will likely consist of a plaque - will be presented to the single-op participant who accumulates the highest total of points over the four events for a given year. This is the second event for 2018 - so you can add to your score from March. Your points will be counted regardless of which power category you enter. Note that the low power entry has a 1.5X multiplier and the QRP one has a 3X multiplier. You figure out which category will help your overall total at the end of the year. However, if you're new to amateur radio you may want to check out Field Day in a little more detail at this link. http://www.arrl.org/field-day This year we will be operating three stations on the 40, 20, 15 and 10 meter bands using multi-band beams and 50' towers. We will be on Phone (voice) CW (Morse code) and maybe even digital. If you've never seen or operated the HF bands now's your chance. We operate under the club call, W1NY and all operate under the umbrella of an Extra Class license. Never tried HF before - NO EXCUSES, come on down and have some fun. Besides three stations and over a dozen operators we'll be fielding a satellite station, public information booth, alternative power, ARRL traffic handling and of course a picnic Saturday evening. The only thing we need to make this better is YOUR participation. HCRA Field Day is conveniently located at School Street Park in Agawam, MA.The park is a beautiful location, close to Springfield and a nice place to take the kids and family. Add ham radio and what a great way to spend a few hours this weekend! Don't forget we have a fantastic raffle going on for an Icom IC-7300. For a $10 donation you could end up with a state of the art transceiver worth $1100. (Only 250 tickets will be sold so your chances are high - but you have to buy a ticket :) If you've already signed up for Field Day this year we offer a big, THANK YOU! If you haven't and wonder if there's a place for you - CERTAINLY! As you know Field Day, especially the HCRA way, is not only FUN but a great place to showcase our hobby to the public, erect antennas, operate on bands we may not have (yet), share some food and stories with other hams and, you guessed it, have FUN! Through Jeff/NT1K's efforts we have a great Field Day page on the HCRA website. Take a look here and see what's been planned so far. See your name on the list, great? Don't see your name on the list? That's even better because, with your help, we can make HCRA #1 yet again in the Western Mass Section. Even though the hour is late we're still looking for help with a few more items. Are they hard? Nope! If you volunteer will we help you? ABSOLUTELY! Check out the web page, plan on coming over to see us and let's all have some fun this weekend! Thanks for reading this to the end and we really hope to see everyone this weekend. Don't miss it, you'll have to wait another year for the next one! '73...
