(June 5th, 2015) Message-ID: Hello, I am writing to inform you that tomorrow the Hampden County Radio Association will be holding its final meeting before the summer break. This month's meeting will be elections and about field day. You can see this month's Zero Beat to see who is running for what. You will also notice that the Vice President seat is open. If anyone would like to help out HCRA, please consider running for VP. We will also start selling tickets for our big 250 raffle and for our field day raffle! This year HCRA went with the TS-590SG which is a really great 100w HF-6M base station that is packed full of options that rivals the Elecraft K3. Retails at $1700. As you may know from Zerobeat, we had to set a minimum amount of tickets that can be sold before the drawing is allowed to take place. The drawing will take place at the MTARA hamfest in 2016 or at the next HCRA meeting after the minimum has been reached. Whichever comes later. For Field Day we will be raffling off a battery backup starter kit which includes a Hamsource EZgate which instantly switches power to your battery in case of power failure. Also included is a powerpole distribution panel and a plastic case to house your backup battery of choice. All you would need to do is provide the battery and the cables. $160 Value. Tickets will be $5 ea and the drawing will be held at the end of field day. Being able to run your radio off battery backup during times of power outage is a nice thing to have. Hope to see you at the meeting. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend. If you know someone interested in amateur radio, bring them along as well. A big thank you to Bruce Fuller (KB1TLX). He has been providing donuts and coffee to the club during meetings and has done an excellent job at making it happen. We also have some nice raffles! Message-ID: Hello all, Just informing you of what's going on with HCRA and field day in case you were un-able to attend the meeting. Field Day is almost a week away!! Almost all the loose ends have been tied up with field day and I think we're ready to go! Field day setup will start on Friday, June 26th at 10am. The location will be school street park in Agawam MA. This is where your help is the most important. We will be there throughout the day and a bit into the afternoon. Pizza and drinks will be provided to the setup crew. Field Day officially starts on Saturday June 27th at 2pm local. We will be on the air as much as possible for the 24hrs. Operators are needed as well. CW operators is a plus. After the 24hrs, we will start to tear down the stations, pull the winning field day raffle ticket and enjoy the rest of the summer. For more information about Field Day please visit our Website http://www.hcra.org/field-day/field-day-2015/ You can also see previous years Field Day stats from the menu. We hope to see you there! If you know of anyone interested in Amateur Radio, please invite them along to show them just a little bit of what we're about. ------------------- HCRA FIELD DAY RAFFLE Just an FYI that we have a Field Day raffle going on. The HCRA Board of directors thought it would be nice to have an item that is related to what Field Day is about. We decided a battery backup starter kit would be the perfect choice for a FD raffle. The package consists of 1 EZ gate that will instantaniously switch your power from the power supply to the battery in case of an power outtage and it will maintain your battery while the power is on. Also include is a distribution panel using Anderson powerpoles and a battery box to securely hold your battery of choice. Just provide some cables and a battery and your radio/station will be operational during loss of mains power. Tickets are just $5 each and will be available at Field Day. Drawing will take place at the end of Field Day on Sunday, June 28th. Winner does not need to be present ----------- HCRA 250 Raffle As you may know, HCRA is raffling off a Kenwood TS-590SG. It's a very excellent 100w HF-6M rig with outstanding features and a solid receiver. We've printed 250 tickets and they are going for $10 each. Due to the price of the radio, we have changed the terms a bit and set a minimum amount of tickets that have to be sold before the raffle is allowed to take place. If we don't sell at least 200 tickets before the end of MTARA's 2016 hamfest, the drawing will take place at the following meeting after the minimum has been reached. If all 250 tickets are sold before the hamfest, it will be at the following meeting. Tickets will be available at Field Day, HCRA events, meetings and through each board member. ----- That's it! Thanks for being a member of the Hampden County Radio Association. Your feedback is important so if you have any suggestions, please contact a board member. The club won't be successful without input from you. You can contact though e-mail anytime. But if you must need to call, my phone number is 413-887-7854 . Enjoy your summer, get on the air and stay safe! Message-ID: Just informing you that the Hampden County Radio Association has participated in the ARRL's 2015 Field Day this past weekend. As you may know, the weather wasn't too friendly and it ended up being a very wet field day. However that didn't stop us from giving it our best shot. Thanks to the dedication of the band captains, operators, setup crew and tear down crew, we've managed to make at least 3,153 contacts. That's excellent!! Even with the rain, people managed to deal with it and had a great time. If you have any photos from Field Day, please send them to NT1K at NT1K.com photos will be used in upcoming issues of Zerobeat and they will be also used on the website and possibly submitted to the ARRL. Please send your photos or anything related to Field Day to us! If I forgot your name, please e-mail so I can include it on the website. We've also held a VE session with 5 candidates. We now have one new tech and a new tech who also passed their general exam. We had one club member obtain his general and a visitor from the west coast obtained his extra. Thankfully the rain held long enough. We had a guest operator from California who found our Field Day through the ARRL's Field Day finder. He was in the area on other business and helped out with setup and even made a bunch of QSOs. We will update the website once everything has been processed. Enjoy your summer and see you in September! 73, Jeff (NT1K) HCRA President
