Greetings all,
While the below may not be directly related to Amateur Radio. A number of Hams use phone apps to connect to Amateur services such as Packet, IRLP and even WINLINK. If your seen doing this, Johnny-Law may stop you and cite you.
New Massachusetts Cell Phone Laws
As of October 1, 2010, new laws will go into effect regarding cell phone use and elderly drivers.
Here is what you need to know:
• Texting is no longer allowed while driving. This includes e-mailing, internet searching and related activities. It applies to drivers while they are moving and while stopped at stop signs and traffic lights.
• All drivers under the age of 18 are banned from talking on cell phones while behind the wheel of a car.
• Drivers over the age of 75 must take a vision test every 5 years and must renew their license in person at the Registry.
Fines for those caught texting include:
• $100 for the first offense • $250 for the second offense
• $500 for the third and subsequent offenses
Please pass this information on to your friends and family.
Drive Safe!
