Hey folks,
HCRA had another excellent Field Day this past weekend. Although sunspots
were pretty non-existent so were raindrops and heat. Everyone attending
appeared to have a fun time, the bands were alive with activity and we all
went home tired Sunday afternoon. Besides everyone that actively
participated in the event (THANK YOU!) I feel we should mention a few key
players that really pitched in and made Field Day a memorable event.
You can't do Field Day without food or antennas can you? We didn't either.
Somehow Ed got four towers and over a dozen antennas up and ready to run by
2:00 PM Saturday afternoon. He and his small but dedicated crew managed to
work through all the setup, keep track of a myriad of pieces/parts and get
it up (and down on Sunday) unscathed. Ed, you're the man!
Antennas done, food next with Jim/NN1Y. Returning from FD 2009 Jim had a big
task, feed all those people with a varied menu and keep it under budget.
>From buying to cooking and cleaning Jim did it all. The food was good,
plenty of it and ready when we were - good job Jim!
Marty/W1MJB took over the PIO position and the GOTA station this year. His
efforts netted us a proclamation and a citation from our Commonwealth, lots
of advertising on local cable channels and a nice looking information table.
Marty, along with Frank/KB1LFD really made the GOTA station the place for
new operators. Nicely setup and coached there were quite a few smiling faces
making their first HF contacts.
Chuck/KB1JFQ tried out his first FD on VHF/UHF. I hope you had time to stop
by, say hello and check out his nice setup.
Our Field Day co-chair and 'logmaster' Matt/W1MSW did a bang up job on his
first FD. Getting a half dozen station up and running on a wireless network
wasn't easy but he pulled it off just fine and still had time to get
comfortable with CW operating on 20 and 40 meters. If excitement is
contagious than Matt got us all infected.
There were many other players as well, some silent and in the background,
others not so much but all of them worked tirelessly to give our members and
guests an opportunity to see a different side of amateur radio. My hats off
to all of you for your efforts - we couldn't have done it without you.
If you were a participant at Field Day this year you know exactly what I'm
writing about. If not, you only have 363 more days to wait until Field Day
2011! Mark your calendar now for June 25th and 26th 2011 so you don't miss
it two years in a row.
Scores and pictures will be on the HCRA website shortly. I'll post a message
to the list when ready.
'73, enjoy your summer and don't forget about the ARRL convention in Boxboro
at the end of August.
Jim, KK1W
