Hey folks,
Things are warming up on the sun. Sometimes that's a good thing, other times
- not so much. We got whacked with a solar flare earlier this week and
there's another on the way. Mid-latitude aurora is possible later on this
week. A good web site to see and learn about all things solar is:
http://www.spaceweather.com/. Lots of cool pictures and good information
about our sun and the effect it has on earth and of course radio
communications.
I heard there were aurora openings on 2 meters in the WI area last night,
don't know if there were any around here. During these solar events it may
be worthwhile checking 10 meters occasionally. Listen for weird sounding
signals that have a 'buzz' of 'flutter' on them. If you have a beam, point
it towards the north, not toward the station you hear as the signals get
reflected off the aurora.
I hope everyone is having a good summer and you have had opportunity to get
some quality 'ham time' in-between vacations and chores.
The Boxboro ARRL New England convention and flea market is the last weekend
of this month. Are you going on the HCRA bus again this year? If so please
take a moment to drop your $35 check in the mail to Ed so he can purchase
your ticket and rent the van.
Of course the next HCRA meeting is only a month away, Friday, September 3rd.
Our guest speaker is K1SFA from ARRL. It should be a good meeting you won't
want to miss.
'73 for now, see you at the convention or the September meeting,
Jim, KK1W
