Greetings all,
It’s almost time again for the Monroe Dunbar Brook Trail Races sponsored by the Western Mass Athletic Club and supported by members of the Amateur Radio community.
Just what are the Monroe Dunbar Brook Trail Races? H ere’s how the Western Mass Athletic Club’s website describes it “The race runs on the trails and service roads of the Monroe State Forest --considered to have some of the most beautiful scenery in the East. Peak Fall colors, stands of old growth hemlocks, waterfalls, brook crossings, bear, moose, and eagles are just a few of the sights that this deep remote valley and its high peaks offer.”
How does Amateur Radio play a part in the race? As well marked as the race trail is, the participants are running though woods along a trail that’s very steep in some areas and rocky in a number of areas. Radio operators relay information regarding the progress of the runners and any course conditions and/or situations that may require attention. If you enjoy public service events, then this is one you’ll enjoy.
