Hi everyone,
Field Day is closing in fast and preparations are well under way. Visit our
website to see the latest roster of bands/operators/loggers, etc. at:
http://www.hcra.org/fd_2009.htm.
What I'm asking for from you today, even if you're not planning on attending
Field Day (we will discuss that later!) is to see if you have some equipment
we could possibly borrow. We don't need a lot but if between our 100 or so
members we could come up with our needs it will make FD a better experience
for everyone.
Generators: We are in need of a few small to medium gas generators. The more
we can get the less extension cords we will have to run. Presently we have
one, maybe two 5KW units, two more would be great. Tuc, N1QFT, is in charge
of them again this year and I can assure you he will be sure to keep a close
eye on them, check the oil and refuel correctly. Can you help us out?
Housing: We need one, maybe two, screenhouse type enclosures for two of the
stations. The 40 meter SSB station and perhaps a new 10/15 meter station are
in need of these. Again, we will very carefully manage the erection and
takedown so nothing loaned gets damaged. Does anyone have something you
won't be using for the last weekend in June?
VHF Station: Field Day offers an opportunity to work VHF/UHF as well. HCRA
isn't a stronghold of VHF operators but if you would like to come out, setup
and operate a VHF/UHF station we can help you out with perhaps an AB577
tower, coax cable, housing and power. All you need to supply is the
rig/antenna and of course the fun! Anybody out there want to give it a try?
10/15 meter Band Captain: This year we may pass on the GOTA station and
operate a 10/15 meter phone station instead. We are looking for someone to
be band captain for this fun station. HCRA can provide a tower, tri-band
beam, coax cable, laptop and power. We may also be able to provide a rig,
that's still in the works. You would be responsible for organizing the
station and making the contacts! With sunspots finally on the rise as well
as the huge amount of stations on the air for Field Day this station will be
fun, fun, fun. So what do you think, can you take this much fun?
Public Information Officer: We are looking for someone that enjoys talking
about our hobby and willing to spend time with folks stopping by to show
them around to the stations, entice them to try operating but most of all to
leave a positive impression about not only the fun but the importance of our
hobby to our community. Any takers?
And last but not least - volunteers!
Field Day is the type of operation that really gets exciting with more
participants. If you're new and have never tried it - come on down! If you
know what Field Day is all about and haven't decided to go or not, why not?
Again this year we will have at least six, maybe seven HF stations available
to operate, log or just watch. We also offer an opportunity to play with
putting up antennas, towers, running cable, learning about power
distribution, managing logging software, talking to the public, etc. At
Field Day there is something for everyone, even you I'll bet. So don't pass
up a chance to have fun this June. With the economy in the toilet, vacations
on hold, and prices going up everywhere HCRA Field Day offers a chance to
stay near home, play amateur radio and have fun. You can't beat that, can
you?
