Subject: [hcra-fd] Logging software for Field Day

  ANNOUNCEMENT:

We will make a change in logging software requirements this year. Instead of specifying a particular program for the band captains to use we are instead:

1.. Allowing the use of any logging program that can export to ADIF format the needed info for FD submission.
2.. HCRA is still supporting N3FJP's Field Day Log and strongly recommends its use, especially at stations with a high percentage of guest operators.

This really moves the logging requirement more directly to the band captains allowing them to use whatever program they feel most comfortable using during the event. All we ask is that before you leave the park after Field Day is over is to make sure I have picked up a copy of your ADIF file on my thumb drive.

Remember, Field Day is an important club function and everyone, participants or not, have a stake in the outcome. Please be sure to select a program that is easy to use and dependable. Most of all make sure you're capturing all the correct information and get ADIF file to me so we can submit our log correctly and on time.

If you are planning on using N3FJP's log the most current version is V2.8. This is the same version we used last year. If you need a new copy it can be downloaded from their website at: http://www.n3fjp.com/. The copy on the site is good for setup and practice but only works for 30 contacts. Please email me directly, off the list, and I'll supply you with the registration information to remove the restriction.

This is the first time we have opened up the logging requirements. Our hope is it will promote easier operation at the stations by letting the band captains use familiar software. The worries we have are of course accuracy and dependability but most importantly how easy it is for newcomers to use when they operate/log at your station. Field Day is a super opportunity to introduce new hams to the hobby. Please try to choose software that will accomplish that goal.

See you next Saturday at Field Day,

  Jim, KK1W
