Leaping Catfish Batman, is the Derby this weekend?

Why yes it is Robin, will you (and other hams) be participating?

Yupper, Batman is correct once again. Join your friends at HCRA, either in
person or on the air, at our 2nd annual Special Event station at the Derby.
Last year we made over 400 contacts in 48 states and one country. With some
good luck from the propagation gods we should do even better this year.

The 2008 event was the brainchild of Jim Harrington, KB1JVF (SK) and was a
big hit with the crowd both at the Derby and on the air. For the 2nd running
of the station Ed, KB1NWH will be doing the setup and running the station. I
know he would be thrilled with help from any of our local amateurs (no, you
don't need to be an HCRA member). If we just leave Ed there on his own all
he's going to do is drink coffee, play radio and chat with the folks at the
Derby. It just doesn't seem right he should have to do that all by alone,
does it?

More information is available on our web page at: http://www.hcra.org/ but
if you really don't want to click the link here's a brief synopsis:

Join us at the Catfish Derby this weekend!
Either on the air or in person

For the second year in a row HCRA will be operating a special event station
at the Catfish Derby in Holyoke, MA. Ed, KB1NWH will be setting up a
station, making contacts, drinking coffee and chatting with folks from near
and far. If you would like to stop by and help with any of those 'jobs'
here's your opportunity. You wouldn't want to leave all the fun to just Ed
now, would you?

We will be operating an HF station on the phone portions of 40 and 20
meters. Antennas will be a dipole on 40 and a tower mounted (AB-577)
tri-band beam on 20.

Expected operating frequencies (+/- QRM and other operations)

40 Meters: 7.185 MHz
20 Meters: 14.260 MHz

Time/Date

July 18th, 9AM to 5PM EDT (1300-2100Z)
July 19th: 9AM to 1PM EDT (1300-1700Z)

Special QSL cards will be available for all contacts made with the station.
Last year hundreds of contacts were made over the two day period. Add to
that the fun and excitement of the derby and especially the excitement of
the younger entrants and you can have a nice break in your regular weekend
routine.

Ed will be setting up the station on Friday, July 17th. If you would like to
participate in any way please contact Ed at (413) 250-3137. I'm sure he
would appreciate any assistance/company/help you may offer.

So take a break from your weekend chores, take a ride to Holyoke and have
some ham radio fun. If you're not home no one will notice you're actually
having fun!
