Greetings all,
Thank you for all the reports that have been coming in regarding the N1KXR/B. Your kind words and encouragement as to what has been accomplished so far, have been most invigorating and will help to propel me in getting the beacon up and running at full capacity as soon as possible.
The tests have gone well, the radio is staying on frequency with no drift, and with the muffin fan, no overheating. The controller is functioning well, keying the CW ID at a steady 15 WPM. While the radio is set for 5 Watts, the antenna is only a steel 102" whip cut to 10 meters, so the ERP is ~not~ the full five watts. Never-the-less, reception reports are coming in from around Western Massachusetts. The beacon is being heard!
I've been in contact with Mr. William H. Hays - WJ5O, the IARU Region 2 HF Beacon Coordinator. The N1KXR beacon is now coordinated; I chose 28.289.50 as the frequency for the beacon, so if you were tuning for the N1KXR/B on 28.280.00...it wasn't there HI HI. In addition to being coordinated, we are now listed in the IARU Region 2 HF Beacon List which is maintained by Bill - WJ5O. Here is a link: http://userpages.troycable.net/~wj5o/bcn.htm
Future plans include the acquisition of a vertical antenna which will be tuned to the beacon's frequency. Once that is done, the beacon will be moved from my residence to the top of one of the local mountains. This should improve the performance of the beacon, and allow it to provide Ten Meter propagation information for Hams and others interested in radio propagation.
