Hello Jim:
I was referred to you by Bernie Michaels.
I am seeking an experienced antenna installer who can help me with
installation of a ridge-pole TV antenna on top of my raised-ranch house
in Marlborough, CT.
I had a similar chimney-mount antenna up until about 15 years ago, at
which time it blew down.
Given the scarcity of commercial installers these days, I was thinking
that someone in the hobbyist sector might be my best bet. The installer
will be compensated and I will provide all the components and plans.
It's been a number of years since I've been on the roof and at this
point do not feel it is the right thing for me. There are also details
as to weather-proofing the feet and tensioning the guys, that I don't
know much about and which should be determined by the installer.
The travel time from Agawam to Marlborough is not too bad -- about 30
minutes -- so I do not think that would be a major problem. If you are
potentially interested in this project, please let me know. If you are
too busy, perhaps you have a friend in the ham community in Agawam or
further south who might be suitable, in which case would you pass this
along.
For what it is worth, this latest home aggravation project started when
I found out that my recently DTV converter box simply will not lock on
to existing digital towers from my location (with a few exceptions),
using a high-end set-top antenna. (The set-top antenna works fairly
well with an analog signal.) I have done some line of sight
calculations and am well within the 39 mile geometric horizon for wanted
towers that might be taken as the magic number. My conclusion is that I
am not getting a signal due to unfavorable transmitter patterns and
building materials. The solution in my opinion is a steerable rooftop
antenna. It worked for me 15 years -- in fact, I could pick up Boston
-- and I feel that once again, the rooftop antenna will be the solution.
I am retired so timing can be at the installer's convenience. I would
like to wrap things up within 90 days.
Thanks for your attention to this matter,
Regards, David Ziskind
