A significant Winter Storm will bring heavy snow and ice accumulations to
interior Southern New England late this afternoon through Wednesday
Afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 5 PM Tuesday
Afternoon through 4 PM Wednesday Afternoon for Southern New Hampshire,
Western-Central and interior Northeast Massachusetts for 4-8” of snow and
ice amounts of one-quarter to one-half inch. Slightly higher amounts of
snow, 6-10”, is expected in Southern New Hampshire. Snow will fall heavy
at times changing to sleet and freezing rain from southwest to northeast
across the warning area overnight. Freezing Rain accretion will occur
with one-quarter to one half inch of ice accretion possible. The snow and
ice could cause isolated pockets of tree and power line damage and power
outages and this will be monitored closely throughout this storm event.

The Boston to Providence RI to Hartford, CT corridor will also have some
level of snow and ice accumulation with Winter Weather Advisories in
affect from 5 PM Tuesday through 9 AM Wednesday Morning for Northern
Connecticut, North-Central Rhode Island, Norfolk, Northern Bristol, and
Northern Plymouth Counties of Southeast Massachusetts, the Greater Boston
Metro area and the North Shore of Massachusetts. Coastal areas through
Boston, Southeast Massachusetts, and the Providence RI area are likely to
receive 2-4” of snow along with a light glaze of ice. Areas just north
and west of Boston and Providence are likely to receive 4-6” of snow
along with the light glaze of ice. Precipitation in this area will change
to rain mid-late Wednesday Morning and remain rain through Wednesday
Night.

Across Southeast Rhode Island and Southeast Coastal Massachusetts, Cape
Cod and the Islands, snow, sleet and freezing rain will quickly change to
rain in these areas with 1-3” of snow/ice before the changeover to rain.
Rain will be heavy at times Wednesday and areas of Southeast
Massachusetts and Rhode Island including some southern areas that are
under the Winter Weather Advisory could see some urban/poor drainage
flooding with the heavy rainfall and this will be monitored.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will be utilized this evening into Wednesday for
snow and ice accumulation reports, any storm related damage reports,
changeover in precipitation type, as well as rainfall and any flooding
reports in Southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This will likely be
the last update for this storm situation as we move into storm operations
but a shortened update may be issued if there is a significant change to
the forecast or Ops at NWS Taunton is initiated. Below is the Winter
Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory statement and Hazardous Weather
